Monte San Giorgio, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of the most remarkable natural treasures in Ticino. The initiatives of Swiss Diamond Boutique Hotel La Romantica are born from this vision: to bring guests closer to Monte San Giorgio through thoughtful, sustainable experiences deeply rooted in the landscape. These projects are part of SECreTOUR — Sustainable, Engaging and Creative Tourism as a driver for a better future in rural and remote areas — a Horizon Europe project dedicated to the development of sustainable, creative, community-centred cultural tourism models.
For Monte San Giorgio, the UNESCO Chair at the Università della Svizzera italiana coordinates the SECreTOUR pilot project entitled “The Threshold of the Sacred Mountain”. The initiative is dedicated to enhancing the UNESCO landscape as a meeting point between geology, biodiversity, cultural memory, the spirituality of the territory and new forms of sustainable tourism.
Within this framework, Swiss Diamond Boutique Hotel La Romantica participates in the SECreTOUR Network of Common Interest, a European network of projects, institutions, companies, heritage communities and local stakeholders committed to developing shared practices for sustainable cultural tourism.
The hotel’s contribution lies in transforming hospitality into a platform for knowledge, care and transmission of the Monte San Giorgio landscape, through tangible initiatives that connect biodiversity, gastronomy, wellness, scientific research and the art of welcoming.

The biodiversity of Monte San Giorgio at the heart of the hotel
The seasonal Botanical Garden was curated in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair of the University of Genoa, bringing together botanical, ethnobotanical and landscape expertise linked to the territory. Integrated into the experience of Swiss Diamond Boutique Hotel La Romantica, the garden is conceived as a living expression of landscape renewal: a place where native plants, biodiversity, environmental wellbeing and territorial memory become part of guests’ everyday experience.
Through a carefully selected collection of species connected to Monte San Giorgio, the garden invites guests to observe, recognise and understand the natural richness of the region. Plants become a sensory narrative: fragrances, shapes, colours and traditional uses reveal the profound relationship between nature, culture and care.
Menu San Giorgio
A seasonal culinary journey inspired by the territory
The Monte San Giorgio Menu was created as a gastronomic extension of the journey dedicated to the mountain’s natural and cultural heritage. In dialogue with the seasonal Botanical Garden, the menu celebrates local ingredients, aromas and plants, translating part of the landscape’s biodiversity into taste.
Within the SECreTOUR framework, gastronomy becomes a refined form of heritage interpretation. The menu does not simply evoke the territory as culinary inspiration; it tells its story through seasonality, botanical ingredients, food traditions and careful attention to provenance.
Aromatic herbs, medicinal plants and edible species linked to Monte San Giorgio become part of the gastronomic proposal as traces of ancient knowledge, reimagined for the present. Each dish becomes a delicate story of the mountain: a sensory encounter with heritage, bringing together pleasure, knowledge and care for the territory.
La Romantica Monte San Giorgio Herbal Infusion
Wellbeing born from native plants
The La Romantica Monte San Giorgio Herbal Infusion was created as a daily gesture of connection with the landscape. Developed in collaboration with Erbe Ticino, it celebrates herbs and flowers that evoke the biodiversity of Monte San Giorgio and the local tradition of medicinal plants.
Within the SECreTOUR vision, the herbal infusion represents a discreet way of rediscovering local plants: not a product detached from the landscape, but a small experience of knowledge, wellbeing and botanical memory.
The selected herbs evoke the fragrances, colours and sensory qualities of Monte San Giorgio. Their use introduces guests to a more intimate dimension of heritage, where nature is not only observed, but welcomed through the body, taste and breath.
